“Plastic out, Science in”
Plastic knows no borders; that is why this workshop brings together those who research, innovate and act to understand how plastics move through ecosystems, how they affect daily life and what solutions can be applied to reduce their impact.
Following the I and II Workshop on Environment and Plastics (2024–2025), we take another step: sharing science, uniting institutions and bringing knowledge to students and communities.
During the last week of March, the Faculty of Biology of the University of Havana will be the
epicenter of talks, posters and debates. In addition to presentations, we will hold exchange activities and presentations of books and audiovisuals related to the topics addressed.
We seek your support for the workshop: sponsorships and collaborations that will make this next gathering even bigger.
Topics
- Environmental plastic pollution: current statistics, indicators and policies
- Plastics in environmental matrices: sources, transport, fate and persistence
- Plastic–biota interactions: adhesion, ingestion, bioaccumulation and trophic transfer
- Ecotoxicological effects on flora and fauna: lethal and sublethal responses
- Microplastics and nanoplastics: detection, characterization and environmental and health risks
- Pelagic sargassum and plastics: interactions, transoceanic transport and effects on associated
biota - Remediation of plastic pollution: biotechnologies, circular economy and community participation
- International scientific cooperation: networks, projects and sponsorships
